 General Information

Show name “Reach for the Stars”

We will have 2 rehearsals and 4 shows. See details on this page below for each.

Each show will be approximately 1 hour and 45 mins (in two acts) with a 15 minute intermission.

Shows will be identical by content, with the exception of a couple of dances in each, performed by our younger students. These classes will be rotated out so that the little ones perform in one show each. In addition, our principle (solo) dancers may vary from show to show (please see schedule for further info.)

Unlike a traditional dance recital, this will be a Show with a common theme throughout the performance.

Rehearsal Dates:

  • Spotting Rehearsal: Wednesday May 24, 4PM – 9PM
  • Dress Rehearsal: Friday May 26, 4PM – 9PM

Show Dates:

  •  SHOW1: Saturday, May 27th at 12pm
  •  SHOW2: Saturday, May 27th at at 3:30pm
  •  SHOW3: Sunday, May 28th at 12pm
  • SHOW4: Sunday May 28th at 3:30pm

All shows and rehearsals will take place at the Florence Simmons Performance Hall, located on the Holland College campus in Charlottetown.

Parent Helpers

We are looking for Parent Helpers to be with children backstage during all performances.

Helpers do not need to have a ticket to be backstage.

If you would like to help please email us and specify the date/time you are available.

We are also in need of adult males to help in a party scene. If any of the fathers would be interested in participating this will not require any dance knowledge.

Please email if you are interested in volunteering for either of the above at info@dancestarsacademy.com

Rehearsals

Location: Florence Simmons Performance Hall, Holland College, 140 Weymouth St, Charlottetown, PE C1A 4Z1

Very Important: Dancers are members of one team. If one person is late or absent, then the whole team performs poorly. Be on time, in the right place, ready to dance.

Spotting Rehearsal: no costumes, regular class attire, all classes except for Pre Ballet I and Pre Ballet II, Pre Jazz II, Pre Jazz/Pre Tap II. Parents, please ensure your student’s hair is off the face and neck in a bun or ponytail.

Dress Rehearsal: All students. Full dress in costumes! (except Pre-Ballet I & II,  Pre Jazz II, Pre Jazz/Pre Tap II)  (Parent volunteers appreciated!)

Rehearsal is the most difficult part of the show. We will have many dancers participating in the rehearsal.

Waiting area – the theater will be open. Parents are welcome to wait inside the theater.

Siblings – please do not bring younger siblings into the theater during the rehearsal. Your children on the stage will need to concentrate, and we need a complete silence. Feel free to wait in the lobby area.

Please do not be late, we have an exact period of time allocated for each dance.

Be ready to dance immediately – arrive with your rehearsal attire and hair done.

Students and parents should treat the rehearsal as a dance class, and discipline should be maintained accordingly.

If parents chose to stay through the child’s rehearsal part, we are asking to limit one parent per student. Please do not bring siblings or friends.

Students and parents waiting their turn must be quiet and not wander around theater.

Students should leave the following items at home: purses, jewelry, cell phones, games, watches, and other valuables.

Note: it is important for groups not only to arrive but also depart on time as specified above. This will help us to keep a manageable number of students during the rehearsal.

ABSOLUTELY NO FOOD, COLOR DRINKS, OR COFFEE IN DRESSING ROOMS. We will have lots of costumes and kids changing all the time. An accident with a costume may turn the celebration into a nightmare for your child.

It is very important; that dancers should arrive with their hair in a bun or ponytail, makeup and tights already on to avoid any crowd. The sitting areas at the table are limited. Make sure to tie elastic strings off front of ballet slippers in a knot and cut to one inch.

Parents (one parent only) should bring dancers into the dressing room (follow signs once you enter the Performance Hall), and then put dancer’s recital costume and shoes on. Put on any headpiece with your own bobby pins and leave right away.

Pick-up after the show: Moms should retrieve dancer from inside the female dressing room. Dads can retrieve dancers from the male dressing rooms. These doors will be marked, please respect this rule as we have older dancers that do not wish to feel embarrassed. Relatives and friends should NOT come into the dressing rooms at any time before, during or after the show.

For safety reasons, parents, relatives, and friends are NOT allowed in the dressing rooms and backstage at all times during the performance. Only authorized volunteers, staff and instructors will be in and taking a good care of all kids!

STAY OUT OF THE WINGS. If you can see the audience, they can see you. Make sure only the dancers on stage are what the audience can see!

CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN. We know you know to keep your dances clean, but make sure you also keep your costumes, dance bags, and dressing areas clean as well!!!

THANK YOU! Last, but not least, don’t forget to ALWAYS thank your teachers and parents! They help you achieve your dreams and goals.
